Debbie Brock, Chair of Cenotaph Trust, presented to the October, 2020 meeting.

MK Rose was created in 2011, with the first pillar being for Armistice Day.

From above the Rose is a mathematical design of a flower. Pillars are placed at intersections of lines.

It is open 365 days a year.

People gather to remember tragic events or for more happy events too.

MK Cenotaph Trust works closely with the Parks Trust.

The MK Rose design allows for up to 106 pillars, with 66 pillars having been engraved. Some pillars represent more than one event.

The Trust chose a new pillar every two years. Next meeting is in the summer of 2021.

The Pillar Panel consists of representatives of The Parks Trust, The Cenotaph Trust, an independent Member and Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher as well as Artist Gordon Young.

It’s important that your date satisfies some of the criteria set out by the Trust:

a) What is the significance to MK?

b) Does it mark an important date in history?

c) Is it significant for a particular demographic in MK?

d) Would future generations recognise what it's about?

e) How would you animate your pillar annually?

Sponsoring a Pillar?

The Council of Faiths is considering sponsoring a pillar in response to Black Lives Matter movement, perhaps commemorating the abolition of slavery in the UK.

The Council of Faiths needs to engage with different groups, especially those of African heritage to move this idea forward.
