Faith based adoptions

At a recent meeting of the Council of Faiths Alison Miller from the St Francis Children’s Society gave a presentation on faith based adoptions.

The society had been set up by the Roman Catholic Church in 1869.

The society is now based in Woolstone.

There is a hugh shortage of adopters, especially for BME, older children, disabled children and sibling groups.

National Adoption Week is the first week in November.

The society is now independent from the Catholic Church.

There are normally 15 – 18 children for adoption per year, but it was over 30 last year.

The society also offers support to birth families that have had children removed.

People from a faith tend to be more ‘successful’ as adopted parents.

If anyone is interested in adoption please email Alison (AlisonM@sfcs.org.uk).

All the children are from local authority care and are usually with foster parents.

If interested in being a foster parent please contact Milton Keynes Council.

The society has profiles of the children needing adoption.

The are 70,000 children in care in the UK, about 260 in MK, 20 – 30 of those go for adoption.

The society operates within a 50 mile radius of MK.
